Space Age Control, Survival Gun, CAL: 22LR (or flares), MFG: 1970s, SN: 1116, single shot pistol. 6 1/2'' barrel. The grey finish on the grip, barrel, and trigger assembly rates 98% with some wear. Bore is very good, darkened, with very light even roughness. Mechanically solid. Front sight is integral to a band affixed to the end of the barrel, rear sight notch is cut into the top of the trigger assembly.
The trigger assembly has a threaded breech that can receive either the .22lr barrel or flares. The grip has three threaded positions that each hold a flare cartridge marked Penguin Aerial Signal Flare Cartridges (SFR - 2). The bottom of the grip has a compartment that holds 12 rounds of 22LR. There is a compass built into the bottom of the right hand side of the grip. Comes with a knife/saw blade that can be mounted to the handle, a ferro rod, and an instruction manual.
This mid 70s survival kit gun was designed by Space Age Control, a company that has had a hand in the production of military aerial vehicle systems and sensors from the late 60s to the present day. These guns were made as part of pilots survival kits, there is documentation from the CIA indicating it was used by the US Army and/or the CIA in small quantities. There is not much information on these unique and rare survival guns.
