Winchester, Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine, 3rd variation, .44 Henry Cal., MFG. 1872, SN: 99251, Lever Action Carbine, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are very good & solid, having been sanded & nicely refinished long ago. With time, it has sustained addition use wear & age since the refinish. The metal is proud to the wood along the edges of the tangs, receiver & buttplate. There is an inlaid oblong shaped piece of matching wood that fills where an inlaid sling provision previously resided in the belly of the stock The upper left corner of the wrist has some matching wood fill building back up the area where a chip is missing from the corner of the tang & receiver. The toe of the stock sustained a split or break at some point & was glue repaired, with a bit of added fill evening out the contours. The forend has one larger gouge at the forend tip. Overall, the stocks maintain a very nice appearance. The metal has worn gun metal gray, with a very thin brown patina. The brass receiver & buttplate were likely cleaned at some point, but are developing a nice aged patina. There are Bore is very good, with cleaned roughness amongst strong rifling. The barrel carries the original flip-up rear sight, with 1,3 & 5 markings for 100, 300 & 500 YDS & a standard pinch blade barrel band front sight. The address atop the barrel is still very clear. Stock carries a brass flip-up trapdoor crescent buttplate. Staple mounted saddle ring. The SN is block stamped on the lower tang. Tight, smooth action & appears mechanically sound. This 1866 SRC has a used & strong period appearance, while maintaining good functionality.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 3500 to 6000
