Winchester, Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, 3rd Variation, .44 WCF Cal., MFG: 1882-90, SN: None, Lever Action Carbine, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag. The original wood stocks are good & solid, despite a 6'' grain crack emanating from the upper tang & running along the left side of the stock & another 3'' grain crack running along the left side of the wrist. There are two short 1'' tight cracks on at the upper tang of the buttplate & one at the lower tang of the wrist. The tip of the forend has a 2'' crack. Tiny corner chip at the lower right side of wrist. The wood has a nice aged or darkened rich chocolate brown appearance, with several minor to small scratches, gouges & contusions to the wood & original finish. The original metal blue finish has worn mostly gun metal gray, with an even very thin brown patina. Fitted with a flip-up ladder rear sight, with excellent snap & box carbine front sight. Bore is excellent. Metal carbine buttplate, with sliding trapdoor. Original saddle ring. Tight smooth action. SN worn from lower tang but with a caliber barrel marking & no proof stampings it places production between 1882 & 1890. A nice, original & desirable antique Model 1873 SRC in the popular 44 WCF.
