Winchester, Model 1886, 40-65 WCF, MFG. 1888, SN: 22478, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Round barrel, Full mag. The straight grip stocks are good, with the stock having been sanded & refinished, with the wood remaining proud to the metal. The forend retains thing coverage of the original finish. The stocks both exhibit minor handling marks, scratches & contusions, with more found on the forend. There is a bit of edge chipping at the end of the upper tang of the receiver. The metal on the barrel has worn mostly gun metal gray, with a thin brown patina. The mag & mag retaining loop appear to be updated replacements carrying 90% blue. The case-hardened receiver, lever & hammer have all worn gun metal gray. The sliding bolt retains some thin remnants of the original blue. The barrel is fitted with an adjustable rear sight & elongated blade front sight. The upper left side of the receiver has two filler screws for possible mounting of side mounting of receiver sight. Bore is good & bright, but with numerous spots of scarring amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a checkered widow's peak shotgun style metal buttplate. Remains a solid antique case-hardened 1886 rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1250 to 2500
