J. Stevens & Co., Model No. 4 Gallery Tip-Up Rifle, Cal: 22 RF, MFG: 1870's-88, SN: 214488, Single shot, tip open, 30'' Octagon to round barrel, The original straight grip wood stock is excellent, but with numerous minor to small scratches, scrapes & dings to the original finish. This model produced without a forend. Left side of barrel is marked ''J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS.MASS. PAT.SEPT.6.1864''. The metal blue finish on the barrel has worn away & toned to a mix of gun metal gray & a thin brown patina. The nickel finish on the receiver is showing wear, with areas of loss developing a spotty brown patina. Scalloped trigger guard. The receiver is fitted with a large sliding disk flip-up Vernier tang sight, while the barrel carries a fixed rear & folding globe front sight. Bore is good, with areas of pitting & roughness amongst thinning rifling. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate, retaining some original nickel. A very nice representative example of the early Stevens Gallery tip-up rifle, with factory special order sights. Antique, No FFL Req - Value: 600 to 1000
