Remington, Model 8, 30 REM CAL (marked 30-30 Rem), MFG. 1907, SN: 6100, Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' barrel. Early 2nd year rifle. Although this rifle fires a .30 Rem rimless cartridge, it carries the original early & rarer .30-30 caliber marking. Remington tried to utilize the 30-30 marking to take advantage of the popularity of Winchester's 30-30 caliber. They were quickly forced to change their caliber marking to .30 Rem on later examples, as these rifles would not accept the rimmed 30-30 cartridges & confusion was often the result. This makes this early caliber marked rifle much rarer than a standard marked 30 Rem. The original straight gripped wood stocks are very good, having been sanded & refinished. There is a 1'' glued toe chip in the stock & small missing chips at the top back end of both sides of the forend. Due to the sanding for refinish prep, which has left the metal proud to the wood at the wrist, there are just few minor scrapes, scratches & contusions remaining on the stocks. The original metal blue finish rates 80% on the barrel, 60% on the receiver due to thinning loss & carry wear. The barrel carries an adjustable rear sight & a Marble ''45W'' tall front blade sight. The receiver appears to have once carried a flip-up tang & later a Redfield receiver sight as there is the extra screw filled hole above the factory provided tang screw hole, which is necessary for mounting the Redfield back of receiver sight. Bore is excellent & bright. Stock carries the Remington Arms checkered plastic buttplate. 5 rd fixed magazine. Sling studs in belly of stock & tip of forend. Tight smooth action. A fairly rare rifle due to the 2nd year production early ''30-30'' caliber marking, which still presents very nicely. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
