RARE FACTORY SCOPED Winchester, Model 68, 2nd Issue, Marked .22 SHORT, LONG & LONG RIFLE Cal., MFG. 1937-41, SN: None, Bolt Action, Single shot rifle, 27'' round barrel, This rifle is the 2nd issue having the heavier (non grooved) stock, with blunt forend & the sunk forend screw. The original flat pistol grip wood stock is excellent, having been cleaned, possibly stripped & expertly refinished. There are very few tiny handling marks remaining in the excellent finish. The original metal blue finish is 85% overall, as coverage is excellent, but depth of blue has thinned some. Bore is excellent & bright. The rifle is factory fitted with a Winchester 5 power scope, with crosshairs, on Winchester scope rings & on factory scope block mounts. The proof stamping have been correctly moved to the left side of the bolt & barrel. The barrel carries the correct Winchester wheel adjusting, aperture receiver sight & later style ramped & hooded blade front sight. Buttstock carries a Winchester checkered plastic buttplate. It is estimated that during the 4 cataloged years Winchester produced the factory scoped Models 67, 677. 68, 69, 697, 72 & 75, only an estimated 400 scoped model 68 rifles were produced. The rifle comes with a copy of the WACA article by Vincent L. Rausch on these rare scoped rifles. An overall excellent presenting rifle & very collectible amongst Winchester enthusiasts.
