Springfield Armory, M1898 Krag, Cal: .30-40, MFG: 1901, S/N: 328167, Bolt action rifle, 30'' barrel.
CONDITION: The straight wrist walnut stock is very good near excellent with thinning to the finish & small nicks, dings, & scratches from use. Bottom of the wrist has the circle ''P''. The left flat of the stock has the inspectors cartouche over ''1899''. The metal carries a arsenal refinish with slightly thinned markings & light roughness across the metal under the finish. The blued finish rates 85% overall with spots of thinning & wear spots toning brown. The left side of the receiver is marked ''U.S.'', ''MODEL 1898'', ''SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'', & the S/N. the middle barrel band is marked ''U''. The bore is fair. It's bright, but has thinned rifling that wears smooth at the muzzle with roughness throughout the bore. The barrel holds a blade front sight with a tangent/ladder, U-notch rear sight marked 1 to 4 on thew base & 1 to 20 on the ladder. The stock carries a steel trapdoor buttplate. plate has worn gray with nothing inside the trapdoor. The rifle has both factory sling loops with the third stacking loop.
