CZ BRNO, VZ. 24 ''1937'' (Possible Japanese Landing force rifle), Cal: 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser), MFG: 1937, S/N: P54036, Bolt action rifle, 23 1/4'' barrel.
HISTORY: in the mid-late 1930's, war in Aisa between Japan & China was rising & the Japanese Navy need more arms for their troops. The Majority of state arsenals were in army control & their production of arms were given to the army & the Navy had to look at foreign sources for arms. They would test many rifles & ending up loving the German Mauser, however they were too expensive & they would land on buying Mausers from the Czechs, Type I Rifles from Italy through their Axis Pact, as well as a small number of K98k's from Germany as war aid. They most believed stories is that 40,000 VZ-24's were bought From CZ BRNO by the Japanese Government in 1938. These are all believed to have been in the ''P'' serial pre-fix with the majority of surviving examples with Japanese markings, features, & slings being in the 40-70K range, however some have been found outside this range as well as some have a ''C'' prefixed S/N but still having Japanese markings. These are mostly likely rifles captured from China that were put back into use by Japan, China did buy large numbers of VZ-24s around the same time & they are documented as being ''C'' prefixed. When Germany invaded & occupied Czechoslovakia in march of 1939, they had control over CZ BRNO, & with them being allies of Japan they did take some stockpiled of VZ-24's for the Czech army & sent them to Japan since others were already in use. This rifle falls in the middle of the S/N range Japan Bought from CZ BRNO & is likely one that was used by Japan.
