Nagoya Arsenal, Type 38, Cal: .300 Savage, MFG: 1933-40, S/N: 93488, Bolt action rifle, 25 1/4''
CONDITION: The semi-pistol grip Japanese Walnut (Oni-gurumi or Siebold walnut) stock is very good as being cut down, shaped, lightly sanded & refinished. There are still present deeper dings/gouges from after the refinish, as well as some newer nicks, dings, & scuffs from after. Two-piece Japanese buttstock. Inside of the rear sling cutout is marked ''W''. The metal carries a old thin re-blue that retains almost full coverage but is toning to a mix of gray & brown patina with speckled rust & spots of roughness from cleaned pitting present on the barrel. Some spots of deeper blue are still present at the rear of the receiver. The receiver band is marked with a INTACT chrysanthemum (Most were ground off when surrendered rifles as a face-saving gesture), over ''TYPE 38'' in Japanese. The left side of the receiver is marked with the series mark, the S/N, the Nagoya arsenal logo, & Japanese inspectors marks. The left side of the chamber is stamped ''300'' over ''SAV.'' (the barrel was shortened at the chamber end as part of the re-chamber to 300 Savage). The barrel appears to be a later type 99 barrel that was fitted to a type 38 Rec. with a late production 99 style front sight but with the older type 38 rear sight. The barrel is the same length as a factory type 99 from where the chamber tapers down to the barrel, to the muzzle. S/N matching bolt. The bore is good. It's bright & shiny with thin rifling & a couple spots of roughness. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight & a flip up ladder, V-notch rear sight marked 4 to 24. The stock carries a blued steel cupped buttplate that's worn gray with speckles of brown patina & over applied stock lacquer on the sides. The rifle has no sling mount or a cleaning rod. Rifle does come with a rubber slip on recoil pad/LOP extender. Mechanical function appears solid. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 150 to 300
