Century MFG. Inc., Model 100, CAL: 45-70 GOVT, MFG: 1973-80's, SN: 790, SAO Revolver, 8'' Barrel.
HISTORY: This firearm was introduced in 1973 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the .45-70 cartridge by the US military, the Model 100 revolver is a behemoth of a six-shooter. It was made by Earl Keller and Gene Phelps of Indiana, under the name Century Mfg, Inc (no relation to Century International Arms). The design is a Single Action Army Colt scaled up, and was made with a bronze frame, and with a cross bolt safety added. They were initially chambered for .45-70, but this expanded to include .50-70 (Model: ''The Mother Load''), .375 Winchester, .444 Marlin, and .30-30 Winchester. Phelps and Keller parted ways in 1976, with Keller continuing to make the guns the same way and Phelps changing to stainless steel and abandoning the cross bolt safety. In total, something close to 3,000 guns were made in total.
CONDITION: The original wood grips are very good, near excellent, with some small dings. The original blue finish on the cylinder, barrel, & ejector housing rates approximately 98%. The solid bronze frame is very good with some speckled oxidization on the topstrap & some splotches of tarnishing around the gun. All of the factory markings around the gun are crisp. Bore is excellent, bright with strong rifling. Mechanically poor to fair, there are some mechanical issues. The cylinder seems to be slightly out of time & will periodically rotate past the final locking position if the hammer is drawn to the rear quickly. It appears the cylinder latch does not engage early enough. This firearm likely requires some gunsmithing to function properly. (Note: The safety will only engage or disengage when the gun is in the half cocked position.) The barrel holds a fixed front sight. A windage & elevation adjustable rear sight is mounted to the top of the frame. FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 3200
