RARE Colt Lightning, Large Frame, Marked .45-85-285 CAL., MFG. 1888, SN: 1470, Slide Action Rifle, 28 1/4'' Round barrel, Full mag. Early, second year rifle. The factory stocks are excellent, with the correct checkered forend & non-checkered stock. The stock has a couple of tightly repaired 1'' cracks at the toe. The checkering on the forend remains very good, with a couple of small 1/2'' hairline cracks & edge nicks. The stocks appear to carry the original finish, with several small dings & minor scratches. The metal finish on barrel, mag & receiver has worn mostly gun metal gray, with spotty areas of brown patina. Rifle fitted with a Lyman flip-up adjustable tang sight, while the barrel carries an adjustable buckhorn rear & Rocky Mountain silver blade front sights. Bore is very good, with strong rifling & some light roughness. Crescent metal buttplate. Smooth tight action. One of only 6,496 large frame rifles were produced from 1887-94. Overall, a very nice example & fairly rare rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
